Set Up the Game:
Start by selecting your game mode. You can play solo against AI, with friends locally or online, or join global multiplayer matches. Choose from various maps and set the number of players and rules for the game.
Choose Your Army:
At the start of the game, you’ll be assigned a color and a set of territories. Each player will receive a number of armies to begin with, which are placed on the map. The number of starting armies depends on the number of players and the specific rules.
Turn Phases:
Your turn is divided into several phases:
Deploy Armies: At the beginning of each turn, you'll receive new armies based on the number of territories you control and any bonuses from controlled continents. Place them strategically in your territories.
Attack: You can attack neighboring territories controlled by opponents. The attack is decided by dice rolls. You roll one or more dice depending on the number of attacking armies, while the defender rolls a corresponding number based on their defending armies. The higher dice roll wins, and the loser removes armies from their territory.
Fortify: After attacking, you can move your armies to reinforce your positions, making them stronger for future turns.
Combat and Dice Rolls:
When you attack, the number of dice rolled depends on the number of armies involved:
Attacker: Can roll up to 3 dice (if they have at least 3 attacking armies).
Defender: Can roll up to 2 dice (if they have at least 2 defending armies).
Compare the highest dice rolls from both sides. The higher die wins and the losing side loses one army for each lost die. If the attacker wins, they take control of the defending territory.
Control Continents:
Holding entire continents provides bonuses, such as extra reinforcements each turn. You can use these bonuses to strengthen your forces and advance your dominance on the map. Be wary, though, as controlling a continent also makes you a target for other players.
Risk Cards:
At the end of each turn, players may receive a Risk Card. These cards can be traded for additional armies on future turns. You can also trade in sets of cards to gain powerful reinforcements, which can turn the tide of battle.
Special Abilities and Variants:
Depending on the version of RISK you are playing, special rules or abilities may come into play. Some maps or game modes introduce unique features, such as fog of war, which hides the movement of enemy forces, or mission-based objectives, where you complete specific tasks to win the game.
Winning the Game:
The goal is to eliminate all other players or fulfill a specific mission (in mission-based games). If you manage to control all territories on the map, you win the game. Strategic use of alliances, attacks, and fortifications will be essential to achieving world domination.
